A Barrière Finale to Remember

The Barrière Deauville Meeting is set to bow out in style. On Sunday, Groupe Barrière, a historic partner of Deauville racing for more than 25 years, will take centre stage on a card where all nine races will carry the Barrière name.

Three highlights will feature during the afternoon: the Barrière Prix Quincey (Gr.3), the Barrière Prix de Meautry (Gr.3) and the Lucien Barrière Grand Prix de Deauville (Gr.2). A fitting finale that reflects the close ties between Barrière, French racing and Deauville.

The feature race of the day will be the Lucien Barrière Grand Prix de Deauville (Gr.2). Seven runners will line up on ground softened by the rain, a factor that could have a significant bearing on the outcome. The eagerly awaited clash will see five-year-old Group 1 winner Arrow Eagle take on the promising Mazzala, an unbeaten three-year-old with four wins from four starts. Mazzala recently proved his ability against older horses when winning the Prix de Reux (Gr.3) on 8 August.

Deauville’s famous straight course will also take centre stage in the Barrière Prix Quincey (Gr.3), where Gaga Girl, the only filly in the field, could make her presence felt. On this demanding course, which often rewards specialists, she produced an encouraging performance in the Prix Rothschild (Gr.1) earlier this month.

Finally, eleven sprinters will line up in the Barrière Prix de Meautry (Gr.3), also run on Deauville’s renowned straight course. Mauricio Delcher Sanchez will be particularly well represented with three runners as he bids to add his name to the race’s roll of honour for the first time.
