Saint-Cloud, France – October 27, 2024 – The €80,000 Prix de Flore (Gr3), run over 2,100 meters for fillies and mares ages three and up, can be considered both a “Vermeille” and an “Opéra.” The race, contested by eleven runners, including five 3-year-olds, promised a fine clash of the generations. It undoubtedly turned to the advantage of the older mares, who proved the two-kilo penalty did not hinder them.
On the heavy ground that she relishes, Legend (French Fifteen) finished the season as she had started it, with a victory at Saint-Cloud. However, in the interim, the charge of Mme Ades-Hazan and K. Morice has jumped nearly ten kilos on the ratings scale, as she won last March over this same course, with a rating of 36.5 in a handicap. She had raced only three times since then, at Listed level, in April, September, and October, without managing to win but always placing. She needed ideal conditions to win, and she found them on the last day of top-level racing on the Val d'Or this season. She drew off irresistibly in the final straight after racing alongside the Irish pacesetter, Curvature (Lope de Vega). Three lengths behind finished Iznik (Zarak), who was racing for only the fourth time this year, while the German-trained Understated (Nathaniel), always well placed, stayed on well for third, 1.5 lengths further back, ahead of the favorite, the 3-year-old Almara (Almanzor).
