€350,000 Qatar Dollar (Gr2): Jayarebe holds off Almaqam in thrilling finish

ParisLongchamp, France – October 5, 2024 – The last stages of the €350,000 Qatar Prix Dollar (Gr2), a race for 3-year-olds and up run over 1,950 metres on the main track at ParisLongchamp, provided another exciting finish on Saturday’s card. Jayarebe (Zoffany), who raced close to the pace throughout, battled gamely to hold off a strong challenge from Almaqam (Lope de Vega).

Almaqam was forced to race wide throughout but launched a determined bid in the stretch. However, Jayarebe dug in courageously to prevail by a head. This victory occurred fifty-one days after Jayarebe finished second to Economics in the Deauville Prix Guillaume d’Ornano (Gr2). Economics has since gone on to win the Irish Champion Stakes (Gr1). Earlier this season, Jayarebe captured the Hampton Court Stakes (Gr3) at Royal Ascot.

The 3-year-old colt, bred in France by Céline Gualde for Oliver Pawle, was bought for €180,000 at Arqana by Sam Sangster. His Victor Ludorum yearling brother is at the Arqana October sales.
