On Saturday 30 August, Deauville will close the curtain on the 2025 Barrière Meeting in spectacular fashion, under the banner of its title partner, Groupe Barrière.
The Grand Prix takes centre stage
The highlight of the day, the Lucien Barrière Grand Prix de Deauville (Gr. II), is set to go off at 5:52pm over 2,500m. Only six runners, but a line-up worthy of the occasion. All eyes will be on Sibayan, the 4-year-old on the rise, to be ridden by the ever-reliable Mickaël Barzalona.
He will face the powerful Godolphin duo: Casapueblo and Marquisat, aged 4 and 5, with Augustin Madamet and Cristian Demuro in the saddle. Behind the scenes, it’s also a battle of top trainers: Francis Graffard versus André Fabre, two men in top form.
The younger generation will also weigh in, with New Ground (4th in the Derby, 3rd in the Grand Prix de Paris) and Uther lining up under Alexis Pouchin and Maxime Guyon. A tense, tactical and thrilling race lies ahead.
Tradition and flair in the Quincey
At 6:27pm, the Barrière Prix Quincey (Gr. III) will take over, run over 1,600m on the iconic straight track of Deauville, the same used for the Aga Khan Studs Prix Jacques Le Marois. Twelve runners will face the starter, including expected contenders like Volterra, Apax, Devil’s Point and Contentious Soul, all of whom have posted solid recent efforts. Behind them, ambitious outsiders such as Vertbois, Cicero’s Gift, Tumbler and My Cloud are ready to shake things up in the final furlong.
Pure speed on display
At 7:02pm, the Barrière Prix de Meautry (Gr. III) will showcase the sprinters over 1,200m. Seven contenders are ready for battle. Ten Horns and Megarry are among the favourites, but fillies Balmoral Lady and Rosy Affair have shown great consistency. Three-year-olds Cacofonix and Daylight will try to outpace their elders, partnered with top jockeys Guyon and Barzalona.
A friendly and unique finish
The final race of the day will be the Barrière Prix des Entraîneurs, off at 9:07pm — a very different kind of race. Over 1,500m on the all-weather, there are no bets, no whips: just the joy of racing and the special bond between trainer and horse. Ten pairs are expected, including well-known names such as Jess Parize on Braveheart, Stéphanie Nigge with Inca Man, and Hélène Mennessier-Martinez on Shawbak. A relaxed and cheerful conclusion to a high-level racing day.
