On Sunday, the Chantilly racecourse will host the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club, a Group 1 contest – the pinnacle of Thoroughbred racing – open exclusively to elite three-year-old colts. The race aims to crown the standout performer of the generation, serving as a crucial milestone in the selection process for future breeding prospects.
Eighteen colts will line up for the 2,100-meter event. The surprise contender is Sinileo (Siyouni). Remarkably, he only made his racecourse debut on May 16 and secured a commanding victory against more seasoned rivals. His owners, Wertheimer & Frère, have opted to supplement him for the race. Their distinctive blue silks with white seams will also be carried by Nitoi (Siyouni), winner of the Prix de Suresnes (L), where he defeated Leffard (Le Havre), whom he will face again on Sunday. Another high-performing stable this season, Aga Khan Studs, will be represented by Ridari (Churchill), winner of the Prix de Fontainebleau (Group 3) and a troubled fifth in the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains.
This year’s edition is wide open, and among the British contenders, Camille Pissarro (Wootton Bassett), who finished third in the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains, is expected to be a popular choice among punters.
Ten races, including seven Black Types!
Sunday’s card promises an action-packed day with no fewer than ten races. In addition to the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club, spectators can enjoy the Grand Prix de Chantilly (Group 2), run in honor of His Highness the Aga Khan, the Prix de Sandringham (Group 2), the Prix de Royaumont (Group 3), and the Prix du Gros-Chêne (Group 3). Two Listed contests – the Prix La Flèche and the Prix Marchand d’Or – will round out a thrilling day of top-class racing.
