Prix Ingré - Gran Diose imperial in the final stage of the Grand Steeple-Chase Masters

He’s the boss, and he proved it once again: Gran Diose is undeniably back at the top! Last year’s legendary double winner of the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris and the Prix La Haye Jousselin, the splendid horse owned by the Hinderzé family and Luc Monnet had not raced since 17 November 2024.
For his comeback, his trainer, Louisa Carberry, selected the Prix Ingré, just three weeks before the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris. The objective? Get him back into form without using up too much energy ahead of the main event.
Mission accomplished – and beyond!
After a perfectly controlled race in the middle of the pack, Gran Diose sailed over the fences without a hint of hesitation. As soon as he cleared the last hurdle, he unleashed an irresistible acceleration, charging straight towards a brilliant victory.
Under the saddle of the talented Thomas Beaurain, he left Toscana du Berlais three and a half lengths behind, with Diamond Carl finishing third, another three lengths adrift.
Gran Diose has reaffirmed his status as the hot favourite for the upcoming Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris.
Louisa Carberry is dreaming of a fourth crown... and on 18 May at Auteuil, all eyes will be on her champion.…
The Official Result
1st GRAN DIOSE (T. Beaurain)
2nd TOSCANA DU BERLAIS (P. Dubourg)
3rd DIAMOND CARL (B. Lestrade)
Comments from the Connections
Louisa Carberry (trainer of Gran Diose, 1st) – Sennones-Pouancé Training Centre (Mayenne)
"We are three weeks away from the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, and we couldn’t afford to present him only half ready. The result didn’t matter to me: I wanted him to jump well, finish the race properly, and for his jockey to have good feelings. I don't think the race took too much out of him. He jumped carefully, breathed well around the final turn, and once he found daylight, he accelerated. It was the perfect prep race. Now he just needs to recover well and for the next three weeks to go smoothly! Congratulations to Thomas Beaurain and, above all, to Gran Diose!"
Bertrand Le Métayer (representative of the owners of Toscana du Berlais, 2nd) – Royan-La Palmyre Training Centre (Charente-Maritime)
"The horse looked magnificent in training. He’s quite a seasonal type. But when everything comes together for him, he’s very good. He’s up to winning a prep race or a consolation race. Toscana du Berlais is trained with a lot of turnout in the paddock... it’s excellent work by the team! It’s a real achievement to see him perform like this today. His participation in the Grand Steeple is under consideration, but it’s not out of the question. It will depend on how he recovers from this race and on the decision regarding Kaadam, who might wait for the autumn. We’ll have a clearer picture in a few days."
François Nicolle (trainer of Diamond Carl, 3rd) – Saint-Augustin Training Centre (Charente-Maritime)
"The horse was making his seasonal debut. It was a risky bet, knowing he had a minor hock issue last year. He faded slightly towards the end. I don't think the race took too much out of him. I hope he will improve with the run, as my horses have been doing since the beginning of the year. So I’m pleased with his return. And congratulations to Gran Diose!"
