Prix Ferdinand Dufaure : All Eyes on Altura!

On Sunday at 3:15 PM, the Group 1 Prix Ferdinand Dufaure will bring together a high-class field. At the top of the market is Altura (Goliath du Berlais). This bold-tempered filly is known for setting the pace from the outset, often putting her rivals under pressure early on. She scored an emphatic victory in the Group 2 Prix Jean Stern on quick ground and looks set to pose a major threat once again.
Hacker du Berlais (Doctor Dino), winner of the Group 2 Prix Congress, has had to deal with weight penalties this season as a consequence of his title in the "Grand Steeple" for 3-year-olds. He’s been steadily improving with each start and will wear Australian blinkers for the first time—an adjustment that could prove decisive. He’ll be the sole representative of the Chaillé-Chaillé-Pamart team, following the Friday withdrawal of Polo et Marie (Beaumec de Houelle).
Among the possible breakout stars, Lanivtsi (Great Pretender) stands out. This promising gelding recently broke his maiden over fences with authority. The likely strong pace of the race could suit him perfectly. He’ll be joined by Apollon du Luy (Kapgarde), a consistent and reliable performer at this level, though he occasionally drifts left at the final fence or in the closing stages.
Among the new faces in this kind of company, Legolas Tek (Legolas)—a late supplement—will be taking on a real challenge. Rapidly progressing, he could well cause a stir. Also in the mix are tough and experienced types like Le Rivage (Goliath du Berlais) and Lecoeurdeshommes (Jeu St Eloi), both of whom are capable of landing a place.
Finally, a handful of outsiders round out the line-up: Botervia du Kalon (Bathyrhon), Neva (Pour Moi), and Martha Cannary (Goliath du Berlais), all of whom could cause an upset if given the chance.
