Deauville set to thrill on Sunday with a world-class card for racing fans

This Sunday, August 3, Deauville-La Touques racecourse becomes the epicentre of elite thoroughbred action, with a top-level card featuring no fewer than nine races — including four Group contests and two prestigious maidens reserved for highly regarded unraced juveniles. The headline act: the Prix Rothschild – European Breeders’ Fund, the first Group 1 of the summer meeting.

It’s a day made for racing lovers, with international stars on show — leading owners, trainers and jockeys all in the mix for a spectacular showdown.

The Prix de Crèvecoeur and Prix des Marettes will showcase blue-blooded 2-year-olds making their debuts. The next champions may emerge from this elite selection of juveniles sired by the likes of Zarak, Wootton Bassett, Siyouni and Kingman. Powerful stables are sending out their best: Al Shaqab Racing, Wertheimer & Frère, Juddmonte, the Aga Khan Studs… the scene is set for a five-star curtain-raiser.

The younger generation also takes centre stage in two Group 3s: the Sky Sports Racing Prix Six Perfections – EBF, over 1,400 metres and open to fillies only, and the Prix de Cabourg – EBF, a 1,200-metre sprint for speedy juveniles. An international field, stellar pedigrees and a host of top riders — Cristian Demuro, Mickaël Barzalona, Christophe Soumillon, Tom Marquand and more — promise fireworks all the way to the wire.

The highlight of the day, though, is the Prix Rothschild – EBF (Gr.1), pitting the top fillies and mares aged 3 and over against one another over the Deauville mile (1,600m). Representing some of the world’s most powerful operations — Coolmore, Wathnan Racing, Baron Edouard de Rothschild — these mile specialists will deliver a race of the highest intensity.

Earlier in the day, the Sky Sports Racing Prix Psyché – EBF (Gr.3) will spotlight classy 3-year-old fillies over 2,000 metres — a proven stepping stone towards the major autumn targets.
