Sunday, August 9, 2020, Deauville. - An easy winner at the end of the Valparaiso Sporting Club Prix de Reux (Gr3), run over 2,500 metres (12.5f), Skyward (Camelot) certainly won his entry for the Lucien Barrière Grand Prix de Deauville (Gr2).
In a very solid field, the representative of John Messara and Arno Curty took the upper hand in the last furlong and passed the post a length and a half in front of Sublimis (Shamardal), who grabbed inch by inch his second place and narrowly beat Styledargent (Style Vendome).
Trained at Chantilly by Fabrice Chappet, Skyward was undefeated last year at 3 in three outings on all-weather or on good ground, including a Listed race over 1m4f at Saint-Cloud. This year, he had to be content with fourth and then fifth place at the same level on soft courses and lastly over 10 furlongs. Entered in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, he could also continue his career in Australia, the country of John Messara, who became is part-owner after his winning streak.
Skyward had been bought back for £ 170,000 at Newmarket at the yearling sales. He is a brother to the good Siyouchake (Siyouni), second in the Darley Prix Jean Romanet (Gr1), winner of the Prix Quincey (Gr3) and Perth (Gr3).
