On Sunday, ParisLongchamp racecourse has all the ingredients in place for a superb afternoon of racing
On Sunday 7 June, with an eight-race card featuring five black-type contests, ParisLongchamp racecourse has all the ingredients in place for a superb afternoon of racing.
The first highlights of the day will be reserved for the three-year-olds, with two Listed races run over 2,000 metres. At 1:58pm, the Prix Ridgway will bring together five promising colts looking to take the next step in their progression by earning valuable black type. Only Focus has previously competed at this level, although he has yet to secure a victory. Thirty-five minutes later, the Prix Melisande will see eight fillies of the same generation clash, all seeking a first success at Listed level.
The first Group race of the afternoon comes at 3:50pm with the Prix Paul de Moussac (Gr.2). Over 1,400 metres on the new course, nine three-year-old colts will attempt to add their names to the roll of honour. With runners such as Synaran, Afandy and Nighttime among the field, the race promises to be highly competitive.
Half an hour later, attention turns to the older horses in the KRA La Coupe (Gr.3). Seven runners will compete over 2,000 metres, including Tajlina, Casapueblo, Nitoi and Sinileo, all of whom have already produced notable performances at Group level.
Following the Group races, a third Listed contest, the Prix Volterra (5:00pm), will be run. It has attracted eleven three-year-old fillies over the mile in a race that often reveals future stars.
The handicaps should also provide plenty of excitement, with the Prix de l’Île de la Cité and the Prix de l’Île Saint-Louis, both contested over 1,400 metres and attracting fields of sixteen and fifteen runners respectively. Between the two, the Prix de la Défense will offer another opportunity for a new generation of three-year-old colts to make their mark over 1,600 metres.
