May 15, 2022, ParisLongchamp Racecourse (Paris). - The only Prix de Saint-Georges (Gr3) runner not have appeared before this season, the Czech raider Ponntos (Power), bred in Ireland four years ago, won the 5 furlong race from pillar to post. Ridden by Lanfranco Dettori, the horse left a French favourites duet made of Berneuil (Lope de Vega) and Suesa (Night of Thunder), who was sporting cheekpieces for the first time, at one and a half length…
It was a surprising result since Ponntos hadn't had a run for 6 months, and was only 5th at Capannelle for his last run, on heavy ground. He hadn't won since August 2021, at Most racecourse un Czech Republic, and over 6 furlongs. he had then finished 6th in the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp on this same course and distance with the 1 draw.
Ponntos was sold as a weanling for €2,200 at Goffs Ireland, then £6,800 a year later at Tattersalls. His younger Zoffany brother made £11,000 as a yearling at Tattersalls.
