Héros XII: Le Berry is home again

October 10, 2021, Auteuil Racecourse (Paris). - beaten for the first time in the Grand Steeple, Le Berry (Gemix) came back in winning ways in the Héros XII Chase (Gr3). He followed his stablemate at David Cottin's, Général en Chef (Martaline), who had already made his seasonal return and went away early many lengths ahead of the field. After a sluggish back straight though, the two leaders were about to be joined by their elder Carriacou (Califet), who hadn't run since the Grand Steeple as well. Yet they both took off again to fight alone for victory, Le Berry finally dominated the AQPS by three lengths while Carriacou just stayed on to keep 3rd place at 10 lengths, less than a length in front of Eddy de Balme (Cachet Noir) and Figuero (Yeats).

Le Berry's dam Kalberry (Kaldounevees) was raced on the flat and finished 3rd in the Prix de Flore (Gr3) for her breeder, Mrs Édouard Decazes. Her first foal, Berryville (Poliglote), won the Grand Prix de Pau Chase (Gr3) twice after being placed in the Derby de l’Ouest. This is the family of the Melbourne Cup (Gr1), Caulfied Cup (Gr1) and Hong Kong Vase (Gr1) winner Dunaden.
