July 11, 2021, Touques Racecourse (Deauville). - Third in the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr1) in 2020, Laws Of Indices (Power) kept an edge all the way to the post over his Irish compatriot Thunder Moon (Zoffany) in the Haras d’Étreham Prix Jean Prat (Gr1). Over the 7-furlong straight trip, the Ken Condon-trained 3-year-old colt led the middle course field and won by a head, leaving the French favourite Midtown (Dubawi) at one and a half length.

The winner had only finished 5th in the Commonwealth Cup (Gr1) last time out over 6 furlongs at Royal Ascot. It was indeed his first win since his Railway Stakes (Gr2) romp at the Curragh, a year ago.

Laws of Indices was sold for € 8,000 as a yearling at Goffs in October 2019, but his younger brother by Starspangledbanner made € 80,000 last December at Goffs when sold to Troy Steve Bloodstock at the same venue. It is an American family, his second dam being born over there, but some good performers in France feature in the catalogue page such as Price Tag, who won the French One Thousand Guineas but was placed 3rd after an enquiry, and more recently Privity (Private Account), Laws of Indices' 3rd dam, winner of the Prix de Malleret (Gr2) for Khalid Abdullah when trained by Pascal Bary. Her unraced daughter Gujarat (Distant View) made £ 35,000 at 3 at Tattersalls, and she foaled today's hero's dam Sampers (Exceed and Excel), winner of three races on the Dundalk all-weather after reaching € 75,000 at the yearling sales.
