Monday, 15 April 2024, Chantilly Racecourse (Oise) – Under the rain that began just before the start, the favourite, Sajir (Make Believe), held firm to win the €80,000 Prix Sigy (Gr3), over 5.5f, marking his return as a three-year-old. Having finished second in the Prix de Cabourg (Gr3) after a victorious debut, and then sixth in the Sumbe Prix Morny (Gr1), the Nawara Stud-bred horse, owned by his breeder Prince Faisal had easily won his Listed race over 7 furlongs at the end of last season.
Shortened in distance for his return, he raced behind the English raider, Action Point (Blue Point), and La Belle Poête (City Light), launching an attack 2 out by overtaking them. Once in the lead, he struggled to maintain a half-length lead over Classic Flower (Calyx), who finished strong and took revenge on Got to Love a Grey (Dark Angel), who had beaten her in her comeback race.
Symmetric Flower (Dark Angel) made a strong effort one out but just managed to fend off Mr Fleurant (Invincible Spirit) at two and a half lengths. Coming from far back, Balsam (Wootton Bassett) finished strongly in fifth place.
Sajir's eleder brother, a maiden, was sold for £11,000 in May 2022 at Tattersalls. Their dam, Simple Magic (Invincible Spirit), a winner at Wolverhampton on the all-weather track and Gr3 placed, took the same route in December but was bought back for £50,000, in foal to Dark Angel. However, Sajir’s two-year-old full brother is now also with André Fabre, under the colours of Prince Faisal. A son of Dark Angel follows.
Their fourth dam, Hydro Calido (Nureyev), is a sister to notable names such as Coup de Génie, Machiavellian, Exit to Nowhere, and Ocean of Wisdom.
Sajir is entered in the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr1).
