The two Group 2 races run Sunday in Deauville feature a high-level confrontation between the French team and an international bunch, mostly from Britain and Ireland.
The Darley Prix de Pomone (Gr2) is a race for females aged 3 years and over an extended 1m5f trip -it is a female version of the Grand Prix Deauville Barriere (Gr2) scheduled the following Sunday. The English 3-year-old Lady Malliot (Champs Elysees) is the best placed according to the ratings to overcome the French favourite Listen In (Sea The Stars), who has lost her consistency this season but remains able to win at this level the way she did last season in the Prix du Conseil de Paris (Gr2).
From Newmarket in England, William Haggas delegates Klassique (Galileo), a recent third in the Lancashire Oaks (Gr3). These are the three best ratings going into the race.
Over the 3,000 metres-long Darley Prix Kergorlay (Gr2), nine stayers will meet for the last Groupe race of a memorable weekend.
Again, horses from various backgrounds start for the succession of Marmelo and Holdthasigreen, the last two winners of the race. Marmelo (Duke of Marmalade) is back in Deauville after he fought hard against Way to Paris, who beat him by a nose in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil (Gr2). His best rival on paper is Call the Wind (Frankel), who has been looking for victory since his success in the Qatar Prix du Cadran (Gr1) last October and has just been beaten by Marmelo. Once again, he has to give 2lbs for his Gr1 victory on Arc weekend. The 5-year-old Palpitator (Motivator), trained by his owner Christian Bresson, poses as a challenger as he has won the Prix du Carrousel (L) over the same course and distance last time out, beating Mille et Mille (Muhtathir) and Lillian Russel (Dubawi), who was returning from a long lay off and will again try his luck here.
