British trainer Amy Murphy announces her move to Chantilly

From March 2025 onwards, British trainer Amy Murphy will be based in France where she pursues a new chapter in her career as a racehorse trainer. The 32-year-old has been granted a France Galop training licence and will be working from her new base in Chantilly in the Oise region.

Amy Murphy has been working as a trainer in England since 2016 when she first joined the training ranks. Based in Newmarket, she trains mainly flat horses but has also some national hunt horses in her care.

Marin Le Cour Grandmaison, in charge of the France Galop owned Chantilly racecourse and training centre, declared : "France Galop is delighted to welcome Amy Murphy in France. Her remarkable career and international experience is testament to her ambition and professionalism. Choosing Chantilly as her base is further proof of the attractiveness of our infrastructure and the French horseracing system. Her arrival illustrates the dynamic openness and excellence that France Galop wishes to promote. We wish her every success in this new chapter of her career.

Learnt her trade with the best

Amy Murphy started her career when riding out for some of the best trainers, including Nicky Henderson and Dr Richard Newland, while continuing to study at Hartpury College, where she graduated with the highest honours in Horse Management.

After leaving college, she went to work for British trainer Tom Dascombe at Manor House Stables, where she started out as a barn leader of 25 horses before being promoted to Pupil Assistant after just one season. In this role, she took care of a select group of horses based in Deauville, Normandy, during the Deauville Barrière Meeting that takes place each year in August.

In 2012, Amy went to Australia for a six-month working stint at the yard of Gai Waterhouse, one of the most successful trainers in Australia. Soon, she was given the opportunity to travel with horses like subsequent Group 1 winner Sweet Idea, which allowed her to broaden her international experience.

Upon her return to England in 2013, Amy took up the role as Pupil Assistant to Newmarket based Italian trainer Luca Cumani, who promoted her to Assistant Trainer in 2015. Amy’s time at Bedford House Stables, Luca Cumani’s main yard, allowed her to work with high-profile horses like Postponed and Second Step, while also helping to form numerous other Stakes winners and performers.
