Pénélope: Philomène, another star by Prudenzia

Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Saint-Cloud Racecourse. - Sold for €1.625 million in Deauville, winner for her debut in 2020 in the Prix de la Cascade at Longchamp, Philomène (Dubawi) clearly dominated her four rivals for her come back in the Prix Pénélope (Gr3), run over 2,100m/10.5f. The Godolphin-owned, Écurie des Monceaux & Skymarc Farm-bred filly followed a trio led by Anasia (Intello) and beat every one of them to hit the wire with 2.5 lengths to spare,  a good Incarville (Wootton Bassett) finishing 2nd for owner Gérard Augustin-Normand and in-form trainer David Smaga.

The winner is in the Poule d’Essai (French 1,000 Guineas, Gr1), the Saxon Warrior Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (Gr1) and the Prix de Diane Longines (French Oaks, Gr1). She's out of Prudenzia (Dansili), also dam of the champion mares Chicquita (Montjeu) and Magic Wand (Galileo), and also more recently of Enemy (Muharaar), who won his first French race lately in fine style. The nine foals out of Prudenzia sold as yearlings at Deauville made over €10.2m… Patricia Boutin (Suprina) had bought the mare Platonic (Zafonic) £100 000 at Tattersalls, in foal to Dansili, of a foal named... Prudenzia.
