Focus on the maiden winners of the past two weeks on the France Galop racecourses, an opportunity to discover some of tomorrow's champions ...

MOSES (G2), FRA by Dabirsim ex Mon Zamin (Zamindar)
Prix des Terroirs de France (Unraced 2yos, 1,200m Turf), Octobr 11, Chantilly

Owner : Guido-Werner-Hermann Schmidt
Trainer : Mario Hofer
Breeder : Gestut Eulenberger Hof
Rider : Eddy Hardouin

Moses (Dabirsim) started well from the center of the course and veered left to join leader Out of System (Makfi), and then took off without real competition to pass the winning post with 2 lengths to spare over Awaamir (Dark) Angel), a good finisher four lengths ahead of Out of System and the rest of the nine unraced colts and geldings.

Less than a week after Wow's victory in a 3-year-old maiden, he is a second winner for the German owner Guido-Werner-Hermann Schmidt in France. The owner again bought his foal from the Baden-Baden yearlings for €15,000 (his Sommerabend brother was bought back 13,000 € last summer). Moses is the third foal and the third winner out of My Zamin (Zamindar), a winner in Ireland and sister to Polish Patriot (Polish Precedent), winner of five races ... in India!

Moses' second dam Be Mine (Wolfhound) won in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne for Mohammed Al Maktoum and trainer Nicolas Clément, his 3rd dam Upper Strata (Shirley Heights), however, is a Listed winner and the dam of seven individual winners, including Group 1 winners Lord of Men (Groom Dancer) and Her Ladyship (Polish Precedent).

NEAR GOLD (C2, main picture), GB by Dansili ex Neartica (Sadler’s Wells)
Prix de l’Argilière (Maiden 2C&G, 1,800m Turf), October 11, Chantilly

Owner : Écurie Jean-Louis Bouchard
Trainer : Freddy Head
Breeder : Newsells Park Stud
Rider : Aurélien Lemaître

Beaten for his debut at Saint-Cloud by the outstanding Niarchos colt Study of Man (Deep Impact), also entered in the Epsom Derby (Gr1), Near Gold (Dansili) did not bother to take the lead on his second attempt. He followed My Kalores (Lord du Sud), 3rd for their common debut and unable to hold on here. Near Gold, on the contrary, went away in a very convincing fashion and won by three lengths over Blue Link (Air Chief Marshall), who had finished 5th in the race won by Stuy of Man… Near Gold is the sixth winner sporting the écurie Jean-Louis Bouchard colours since August 30th, including three maiden races.

Near Gold was bought €120,000 at Arqana yearlings sale in August 2016 by bloodstock agent Gérard Larrieu (Chantilly Bloodstock) for his customary client Jean-Louis Bouchard. Consigned by Newsells Park Stud, he's the 3rd foal out of winning mare Neartica (Sadler’s Wells), a sister to champion Goldikova (Anabaa) and a three parts sister to Galikova (Galileo). She was purchased £330.000 at Tattersalls in 2007.

Near Gold sister by Kodiac was withdrawn from Goffs yearlings sale last Summer in Ireland.

Main entries : Epsom Derby (Gr1)

TEMPEL (F2), FRA by Deep Impact ex Iron Lips (Iron Mask)

Owner : Wertheimer & Frère
Trainer : André Fabre
Breeder : Wertheimer & Frère
Rider : Maxime Guyon

Fifth to Sweety Dream for her debut in the Prix de la Cascade over the mile, Tempel (Deep Impact) had led the field that day and was outpaced in the final stright. back over Chantilly's turf, the once-entered in th Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1) held on well this time as she took over about two furlongs out and safely landed the race, haf a length in front of Lypharty Ka (Dunkerque) and Estijlaa (Tamayuz), who both finished well.

Tempel is the 6th foal out of Iron Lips (Iron Mask), a Critérium de Maisons-Laffitte (Gr2) 3rd for the Wertheimers. The dam has met a bunch of very selective sires such as Rahy, Kodiac, Pivotal, Oasis Dream, Smart Strike and Japanese champion Deep Impact. Tempel is the 3rd winner hence produced as her 3yo Smart Strike brother Oriental just won his 1st handicap and is now rated 82Lbs.
