TRES RUSH (G3), (IRE) by Rip Van Winkle ex Tres Ravi (Monsun)
Prix du Haut Bois (maiden, 3yos, 2,500m Turf), October 18, Deauville

Owner : Chevotel Racing
Trainer : Freddy Head
Breeder : Chevotel de la Hauquerie
Rider : Hayley Turner

Amongst the favorites in this 11-strong field of maiden 3yos, Tres Rush (Rip Van Winkle) ran three times between May and September, always further than 2,000 metres, and he finally won, beating a tough County Fair (Nayef).

The Freddy Head-trained first-time blinkered gelding took full advantage of his rider Hayley Turner's 4Lbs allowance for female-riders. He jumped on his left at the start though, being already drawn wide with the 9 hole, but was able to make his way under cover and made his move early in the straight as the leaders fanned wide. He was the only one to tackle the leading County Fair, who only gave way in the last stride, losing for the 6th time, by half a length only.

Tres Rush's Teofilo sister, named Hameem, was bought €500,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sale by Shadwell Stud for Hissa Hamdan Al Maktoum, favourite and 5th for her debut on October 24 at Yarmouth for John Gosden…

Their dam Très Ravi (Monsun) was a very good racing mare with Andreas Wöhler for her German breeder Horst Rapp (founder of Chevotel, the Normandy stud farm represented by Tres Rush) as she finished 2nd in the Prix de la Nonette (Gr3) won in 2000 by Di Moi Oui, beating Rêve d’Oscar. She failed in the Prix de l’Opéra (Gr1) afterwards, in what was to become her last race. She stayed in France however since everyone of her 11 foals were eligible to the French Owners' Premiums.

Amongst her siblings, Tres Rock Danon (Rock of Gibraltar), a Groupe winner in Germany, Tres Blue (Anabaa Blue), 2nd in the German Derby (Gr1) and winner of the Grand Prix de Deauville (Gr2), or the Prix de Royallieu (Gr2) 2nd Tres Rapide (Anabaa Blue) stand out…

OUT OF TOWN (F2), FRA by Kentucky Dynamite ex Beynotown (Authorized)
Prix de Ferrières la Verrerie (Unraced 2F, 1,900m Fibresand), October 19, Deauville

Owner : Écurie I.M. Fares
Trainer : Jean-Claude Rouget
Breeder : S.C.E.A. Haras de Manneville
Rider : Christophe Soumillon

Eleven interesting fillies were starting for the first time over Deauville's 1,900m Fibresand but 2 furlongs out, only two of them were still in contention for the trophy, with the Wertheimers' Standing Up (Motivator) and Issam Fares' Out of Town (Kentucky Dynamite) engaged in a fierce fight. Both made their way outside, Standing Up leading Out of Town, which probably helped the latter to finally prevail by half a length.

Out of Town is the second foal out of Beynotown (Authorized), a sister to the Prix Saint-Alary (Gr1) winner and Prix de Diane (Gr1) 2nd Germance (Silver Hawk). Beynotown, on the contrary, ran only twice and won the 2nd time, in Langon. In stud, she first gave Beynostorm (Stormy River), who remained a maiden, then Out of Town, a Slickly filly and a Rajsaman colt.

GYLLEN (C2), USA by Medaglia d’Oro ex Miss Halory (Mr Prospector)
Prix des Authieux du Puits (Unraced 2C&G, 1,900m Fibresand), October 19, Deauville

Owner : Godolphin
Trainer : André Fabre
Breeder : Godolphin
Rider : Mickaël Barzalona

Owner-breeder Issam Fares –and indeed the sire Kentucky Dynamite !– were very closed to sweep both the maiden races on the card maidens as Boomboom Kiss (Kentucky Dynamite) threatened Gyllen (Medaglia d’Oro) but couldn't quite make it as his rider Christophe Soumillon let go when he realized the race was already in the bag for Godolphin.

Favored Gyllen took the lead early and passed the post 4 seconds faster than the fillies in the previous race.

The Godolphin homebred is the 8th foal out of American mare Miss Halory (Mr Prospector), dam of US Group winner Stormalory (Storm Cat). A winner herself, she's also a sister to Blue Grass Stakes (Gr2) winner Halory Hunter (Jade Hunter), and to Van Nistelrooy (Storm Cat), one of the best juveniles in 2002 in Europe for the Coolmore team.

SUNDAY SISTER (F3, main picture), (IRE) by Holy Roman Emperor ex Sunday Rose (Red Ransom)
Prix de Magdeleine (Maiden, 3yos, 1,700m Fibresand), October 21, Chantilly

Owner : Gestüt Ammerland
Trainer : André Fabre
Breeder : Berend van Dalfsen
Rider : Raphaël Marchelli

Bought €75,000 at the Arqana August Yearlings saled by agent Crispin de Moubray for Dietrich von Boetticher's Gestut Ammerland, Sunday Sister (Holy Roman Emperor) began in June with an 8th place over 6 furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte, then finished 6th a month later at Pornichet. Both races were won by other Fabre-trained horses and the trainer let her alone three months until this entry, saddling an untypical 16/1 winner!

Pressed early by Raphaël Marchelli –who'd never ridden her in a race before– in a 14-strong field, Sunday Sister was 3rd in the last bend but ridden effectively, she took the lead about 300 yards out and was never really challenged from then on.

Her Mukhadram sister had been bought back €16,000€ a week ealier at the Deauville sales. The 2 previous foals out of the winning dam Sunday Rose (Red Ransom) did not make an impression although the dam is pretty well bred since she's a sister to Prix du Calvados (Gr3) winner Lady Vettori (Vettori), dam of the classic winner Lope de Vega (Shamardal).
