Two of the four top events of the winter meeting at Cagnes-sur-Mer are scheduled on the fibresand this Sunday, February 10: the Prix de la Riviéra Côte d’Azur – Jacques Bouchara (L), for aged horses over 2,000m (AWT), and the Prix de la Californie (L), for 3 years-old over 1,600m (AWT).
In the first, sixteen runners have been declared including five fillies and two Listed Race winners who will carry 4Lbs each. The first one is Aubevoye (Le Havre), winner of the Prix Pelleas (L) in Compiègne last year at 3 and a good 2nd for his comeback this winter behind Pump Pump Palace (King's Best), third in this race in 2018 whom he finds again here. The second one is Nice To See You (Siyouni), winner of the Grand Prix de Nantes (L) last year but out since November.
Unbeaten in three races, Skalleti (Kendargent) is an intriguing candidate. The best rating of the lot is the one of German raider Palace Prince (Areion), several times Group 2 and 3 placed in Germany where Frenchman Jean-Pierre Carvalho trains him.
In Prix de la Californie, they are eleven 3 years old, including seven fillies. Pizzicato (Dabirsim) won last time out at Chantilly and it is the second best rating of the race behind the filly Isalys (Panis), who has just beaten several colts she meets again here. Trouville (Le Havre) has run only twice but has just won easily his maiden at Cagnes after a second place for his debut at Deauville.
The next Listed in Cagnes will take place on Saturday February 16th with the Prix Saônois (L), for aged horses over 1,600m (AWT). Then, Saturday, February 23rd will be the last meeting with the Grand Prix du Department 06 (L), for aged horses on 2,500m (turf) - 1st stage of the 2019 Défi du Galop.
