Royal Marine (Raven’s Pass), despite his inexperience only from being maiden he became a group 1 winner on his third public outing. The representative of Godolphin won the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr1) and proved to be courageous. The leader in the race, Broome (Australia), maintained the second place in front of the French contender Anodor (Anodin), who couldn’t show the turn of foot we know he has.
How they ran
1st - Royal Marine: Galloped in the second place and started his effort behind the leader, Broome, who he overtake 250m from the post.
2nd - Broome : After leading the race he failed to contend the superiority of Royal Marine 250m from the post but resisted the attack of Anodor courageously.
3e - Anodor : Galloped on the third position throughout the race and made an effort on the 300m before the finish line, but failed to worry the first two horses.
4e - Boitron : Trailed on the rail on fourth position and made a correct effort without finding much more on the final straight.
5e - Shaman : Bit keen in the beginning of the race and resistant to remain on the outside of the field, made a bit of ground on the home stretch.
6e - Dark Jedi : Throughout the race galloped on the last position, but could not accelerate on the final straight.

We will see him next year, certainly over mile to start with, but there are no reasons why he couldn’t stay longer after.”

Royal Marine (Raven’s Pass), malgré son manque d’expérience - il en était à sa troisième sortie publique seulement-, a réussi à passer d’un maiden à un Gr1. Faisant preuve de courage, le représentant Godolphin s’est imposé dans le Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr1) sponsorisé par Manataq. Broome (Australia), qui a animé l’épreuve, a conservé la deuxième place devant le français Anodor (Anodin), qui n’a pu placer la pointe de vitesse qu’on lui connait.
Comment ils ont couru
- 1er - Royal Marine : A galopé en deuxième position, puis s’est lancé à la poursuite de l’animateur, Broome, et a pris sa mesure à 250m du but.
- 2e - Broome : Après avoir mené, a subi la supériorité de Royal Marine à 250m du but mais s’est montré courageux pour résister à Anodor.
- 3e - Anodor : A toujours galopé en troisième position et a tenté de venir à 300m du but mais n’a pu inquiéter les deux premiers.
- 4e - Boitron : A cheminé à la corde, en quatrième position, et a fait un effort correct, sans plus, dans la ligne droite.
- 5e - Shaman - Un peu brillant en début de parcours, et contraint de galoper à flanc de peloton, a refait un peu de terrain dans la ligne droite.
- 6e - Dark Jeudi : Toujours vu en dernière position, n’a pu accélérer dans la ligne droite.

« C’est un grand cheval avec beaucoup d’action. Il a bien voyagé aujourd’hui. Je lui avais demandé d’aller devant, même si le lot était peu fourni. Dans les derniers 400m, j’étais sûr qu’il allait gagner. Le terrain assoupli l’a aidé. Pour la suite, les options restent ouvertes. On va en parler avec le propriétaire. Il peut faire un cheval de 2.000 Guinées l’an prochain. »

« Il court très bien en étant immature. C'est un cheval pour l'année prochaine. Nous pourrions le diriger vers une préparatoire classique. Pas de Breeder's Cup : son année s’arrête ici. Nous sommes très heureux du début de carrière de son père et attendons beaucoup de lui pour les années à venir. Broome a une superbe action et il lui restait du gaz à la fin de course. »

« Quand les autres ont accéléré, il a eu un peu de mal à suivre. Mais il a bien fini. Je suis content de sa fin de course et il a conclu avec des ressources. C'est un poulain tout neuf, qui a besoin de maturité et n'est pas encore totalement venu. Il n'avait jamais eu à lutter avant. Il va sûrement progresser avec le temps. Nous le reverrons l'année prochaine, certainement sur le mile pour commencer mais il n'y a pas de raison pour qu'il n'aille pas sur plus long ensuite. »
