Messidor : Taareef takes Deauville fastlane

4yo Taareef defeated 3yo hopeful Al Wukair in the Prix Messidor on Sunday at Maisons-Laffitte and is expected to continue with an attempt in the Jacques Le Marois-Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard (Gr1) on Aug. 13 in Deauville.

Taareef (Kitten's Joy) has more than confirmed his credentials as France's top miler in the Prix Messidor (Gr3), on Sunday over Maisons-Laffitte straight mile trip. For his second race this season, the 4-year-old dominated by 2 lentghs the younger favorite, 2,000 Guineas 3rd Al Wukair (Dream Ahead), who had'nt raced since early May. Jean-Claude Rouget's trainee, ridden by Frankie Dettori, races for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, and he will now be aimed at the Prix Jacques Le Marois-Haras of Fresnay-le-Buffard (Gr1).

Taareef was bought as a yearling for $675,000 at Keeneland. His sire Kitten's Joy was one of the best grass horses in the United States. Taareef failed last season in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Gr1)  but ended his season with a brilliant victory in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein (Gr2).
