Only fifth in the Prix d’Hédouville (Gr3) on his last start when he was behind some of today’s rivals, the British raider Aspetar (Al Kazeem) decisively turned the tables in the Grand Prix de Chantilly (Gr2). After showing a neat turn of foot, he asserted at the main expense of Ziyad (Rock of Gibraltar) and the front-running Silverwave (Silver Frost). Aspetar carries the Qatari colours of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani and is trained by Roger Charlton. The winner is a son of Al Kazeem, who during his racing career, was also ridden by today’s winning pilot James Doyle. The sire’s four group one wins included the Eclipse Stakes and the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.

How they raced
1st - Aspetar : Held up in fourth, he drew upsides the front-running Silverwave and Ziyad in mid-straight. After digging in for the fight, he led with 100-metres to go and his finishing thrust enabled him to assert a touch cosily.
2nd- Ziyad : Having chased a stiff pace in second, he kept tabs on Silverwave in the straight and whisked second off that rival in the dying throes of the race.
3rd - Silverwave : Smartly away, he made a beeline for the lead and raced isolated on the far side of the track. Having tracked back to the inside after 600 metres, the leader looked to be travelling very cosily on hitting the straight. Having slowed down the pace a fraction, before kicking-on again under Christophe Soumillon, he knuckled down well to his task to the very end, although he was unable to keep tabs on the first and second.
4th - Folamour: Held up in second last place, he was unable to get on terms with the principals and was a well-held fourth.
5th Gyllen: After bringing up the rear, his short-lived effort in the straight enabled him to nail fifth at the main expense of Listen In.
6th - Listen In: Slowly into stride and raced towards the rear. Tried to get on terms in md-stretch but was never really a factor.
7th- Petit Fils : After racing in third, he weakened halfway up the straight.

"He is only a four-year-old and has been tackling older horses since the beginning of the season. It’s a very tough ask when for a four-year-old when it comes to taking on very experienced horses and, at the same time, giving them weight. Today, the whole field was practically assigned the same weight and Ziyad again showed his true worth. The race panned out well for him. We were beaten by a winner whose British form had stamped him as a good horse. Ziyad will be upped in trip with a view to tackling the Prix Maurice de Nieuil (Gr2) on July 14th at ParisLongchamp."

Seulement cinquième du Prix d’Hédouville (Gr3) dernièrement, face à plusieurs de ses rivaux du jour, l’anglais Aspetar (Al Kazeem) a pris une éclatante revanche dans le Grand Prix de Chantilly (Gr2). Au prix d’une belle accélération, il est venu dominer Ziyad (Rock of Gibraltar) et l’animateur Silverwave (Silver Frost), lauréate de la course il y a deux ans.
Aspetar défend les couleurs qataries du cheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani et il est entraîné en Angleterre par Roger Charlton. C’est un fils d’Al Kazeem, qui était – comme son fils aujourd’hui – monté par James Doyle. Al Kazeem a gagné quatre Groupes 1, dont les Eclipes Stakes et les Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
Comment ils ont couru
1er - Aspetar : A patienté en quatrième position avant de rejoindre l’animateur Silverwave et Ziyad à mi-ligne droite. Après une belle lutte, a pris l’avantage dans les cent derniers mètres au prix d’un bon coup de reins pour l’emporter sûrement.
2e - Ziyad : A galopé en deuxième position alors que l’allure était très sélective. A bien suivi l’effort de Silverwave dans la ligne droite pour lui prendre la deuxième place à la fin.
3e - Silverwave : Est très bien parti, prenant rapidement les commandes, isolé en dehors. Est venu se rabattre en tête à la corde après 600m de course. Entré dans la ligne droite avec beaucoup de ressources, a temporisé avant d’être lancé par son jockey, Christophe Soumillon. S’est bien défendu jusqu’au bout mais n’a rien pu faire contre les deux premiers.
4e - Folamour : A évolué en avant-dernière position et n’a jamais pu accrocher le groupe de tête, finissant quatrième à distance.
5e - Gyllen : A galopé en dernière position et a fait un bref effort dans la ligne droite pour venir souffler la cinquième place à Listen In.
6e - Listen In : Est partie à son rythme et a galopé parmi les derniers. A tenté de se rapprocher à la corde à mi-ligne droite, sans se montrer vraiment dangereuse.
7e - Petit Fils : A galopé en troisième position avant de céder à mi-ligne droite.

« Il n'a que 4 ans et il court contre de vieux chevaux depuis le début de l'année. C'est très dur pour les 4ans d'affronter des concurrents très expérimentés en rendant du poids. Aujourd'hui, ils étaient quasiment tous à poids égal et Ziyad a refait sa valeur. Il a eu une bonne course. Nous sommes battus par un cheval qui avait montré, sur ses performances en Angleterre, qu'il était bon. Ziyad va désormais retourner sur plus long et courir le Prix Maurice de Nieuil (Gr2), le 14 juillet à ParisLongchamp. »
