Sunday, May 2nd 2021, ParisLongchamp Racecourse (Paris). - Second for his comeback in the Harcourt (Gr2) won by Skalleti, out this time, the German-bred 4-year-old Mare Australis (Australia) dominated from post to pillar the 129th renewal of the Ganay (Gr1). Bred and owned by Gestüt Schlenderhan and the von Ullmann family, ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot, he seemed to take off again every time some sort of challenge was looming behind. The Irish favourite Mogul (Galileo), who had trailed him all the way, gave up first, but he stayed on in third. Gold Trip (Outsrip), on the other hand, had come by early in the straight and never faded, finishing second, about 2 lengths behind the winner.

The winner last year of the Prix de l’Avre over 1m4f at Chantilly -the race was back in the same meeting as the Ganay, this season-, Mare Australis was away all Summer and only came back once in 2020, to finish a close 2nd to Baron Samedi in the Conseil de Paris (Gr2) beaten a head over 11 furlongs.

Mare Australis is out of Miramare (Rainbow Quest), a Listed-placed in Britain, over 1m4f and more, and a sister to Macleya (Winged Love), a Royal-Oak (Gr1) second. Mare Australis is her 5th foal and the last to date according to France Galop website.
