Doubles abound at Cagnes jumps finale

Owner Hubert de Waële, trainer Patrice Lenogue, jockey Ludovic Philipperon and owner-trainer Alexandra Rosa are the big winners of the last major meeting of the jumps winter meeting in Cagnes-sur-mer.

Sunday, January 8, 2017, Cagnes-sur-mer. - Owner Hubert de Waële's silks prevailed in the Grand Prix de la Ville de Nice-Bernard Sécly (Gr3), the local "Grand Steeple", with Mallorca (Falco, pictured), already winner of the Prix du Comté de Nice (L), the main prep race. Trained by Patrice Lenogue and ridden by Ludovic Philipperon, Mallorca took the lead after the last jump over pacesetter My Maj (Majorien), finally third behind Tosca Diva (Simplex).

The trainer and the owner were soon to double up with Grand Départ (Astarabad) in the Prix Christian de l'Hermite-4yo Gold Cup (L). Claimed for €21,000 only five days earlier, Grand Départ finished well to beat Youmshine (Youmzain), who led most of the race.

Winning rider Ludovic Philipperon also won the Grande Course de Haies de Cagnes (L), the meeting's main Hurdle race, aboard the titleholder Serienshock (Sholokhov), trained by his owner Alexandra Rosa.

The Prix André Massena-4yo Champion Hurdle (L) went to Mondieu (Manduro), who beat his stablemate Speedy Speed ​​(Vision d'État) at Yannick Fouin's yard.

A last meeting of the Cagnes jumping season is shceduled on Tuesday, January 10, before flat racing takes over.
