Zilpaterol found in biological samples taken from horses

French National Horseracing Federation press release. - On Friday, the Horse racing laboratory announced that 5 horses have tested positive to Zilpaterol, a substance that is banned in horse racing. The most recent tested positive released on 1 October.

In the past, horses abroad have tested positive for Zilpaterol after receiving contaminated feed. An immediate investigation in France point to a common denominator in all five positive cases, namely feed that includes RACEHORSE CUBES, RACEHORSE MIX or OPTI-CARE BALANCER, which are marketed under the brand name GAIN. However, at this stage, it cannot be confirmed that this feed is the source of the positive test.

Additional testing is currently being carried out.

It is the responsibility of the Parent companies – France Galop & LeTrot –  and the National Federation of Horse Racing to inform users of these products to be aware of the current findings when running their horses.
