The Race
Following an epic struggle Study of Man (Deep Impact) gave trainer Pascal Bary a sixth win in the #Qipco Prix du #JockeyClub. The colt held a mid-field position before launching his offensive 300-metres from the wire. Pastacoy (Wootton Bassett), who made his effort at the same time, ran on strongly to claim second from Louis d’Or (Intello). These two colts are both surprise packages. The former is trained by Xavier Thomas Demeaulte with the latter hailing from the Chantilly stable of former jockey Tony Castanheira. Intellogent (Intello), who raced widest of all, was a creditable fourth with Not Mine (Dabirsim) running-on through beaten horses for fifth. The favoured favori Olmedo (Declaration of War) faded at the business end.
How they fared
- 1st - Study of Man: After racing in mid-division, he made good progress to lead in the final 400-metres and courageously turned back all-comers to win decisively.
- 2nd - Pastacoy: Well away, he made up early ground so as to negate the disadvantage of his 17 draw. Racing four wide off the rail, and seeing plenty of daylight, before ranging upsides Hunting Horn at the Grandes Ecuries. Making his effort entering the straight, he ran on strongly to claim second in the shadow of Study of Man.
- 3rd - Louis d’Or: After being held up in the second half of the field, he ran on strongly in the straight.
- 4th – Intellogent: The author of a good start, he was buried in the middle of the pack before taking closer order entering the straight. Tenacious to the end, he fought his way into fourth.
- 5th- Not Mine: After waiting in the second-half of the field, he found himself behind the weakening Olmedo before having to swing wide before running on strongly for fifth.
- 6th - Hunting Horn: Well away, he raced in third and kept on well to the end.
- 7th - Hey Gaman: Raced up with the pace and showed prominently without troubling the principals.
- 8th - Key Victory: Smartly into his stride, he raced close to the front end of the race but could find no extra in the final 100-metres.
- 9th - Rostropovich: Always to the rear, he never showed with a chance..
- 10th - Flag of Honour: Held up in mid-division, he failed to trouble the principals at the business end.
- 11th- Dice Roll: Raced in company with Flag Of Honor (see above) and was never dangerous.
- 12th- Stable Genius: Towards the rear and never dangerous.
- 13th - Olmedo: Well away on the rail, he made a forward move in an effort to get on terms with the leaders on entering the straight before weakening.
- 14th- Beat Generation: Bided his time at the back of the field and made no headway in the straight.
- 15th - Naturally High: Raced in the second half of the field before weakening in the straight.
- 16th - Kenya: Smartly into his stride, he helped set the pace before weakening quickly in the straight.

"My voice is hoarse and it’s a sensational outcome as he has finished a good third. On his last outing in the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains, he got hit, had a wide trip and lost a couple of shoes. It was a slap in the face for us but the owner never lost faith when it came to trusting us to do the right thing. It was better to judge him on his third place in the Prix de Fontainebleau. We believed strongly in him."
