BABYLONE (F2), FRA by Invincible Spirit ex Typique (Galileo)

€22,000 Prix de l’Aunette (Maiden 2-year-old fillies, 1,400m/7f), September 28, Chantilly

Owner: Haras Voltaire

Trainer: André Fabre

Breeder: Haras Voltaire

Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

Seventh for her debut after a poor start at Deauville, Babylone (Invincible Spirit) got off much better this time around and settled behind the front-running Grace Shelby (Shalaa). Going into the straight, she was able to make way along the rail without interference and overpowered Grace Shelby, who proved unable to accelerate, but then had to resist Kennella (Kendargent), second for the third consecutive time, and only beaten on a bad stride. Always well placed, Satisfied (Elusive City) finished third at two lengths.

Babylone is out of Typique (Galileo), twice unplaced in Ireland but very well-bred since she's by Galileo out of Denebola (Storm Cat), winner of the Marcel Boussac (Gr1) for the Niarchos family. Typique has been sold out of training for € 450,000 at the Goffs breeding sales to Broadhurst Agency (Laurent Benoît). Since then, she gave to the Haras Voltaire managed by Thierry Gillier, founder of the Zadig & Voltaire clothing company, first Babylone, then two other fillies by Invincible Spirit and Dubawi.

Baylone's victory is the seventh of the year for Haras Voltaire, which scored 5 wins last year, and two in 2018. The team's first victory dates back almost two years to the day when Azora won at Lyon-Parilly.

NEMBO KID (c2), FRA by Siyouni ex Victoria College (Rock of Gibraltar)

€22,000 Prix de Vaublanc (Maiden 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,400m/7f), September 28, Chantilly

Owners: Alain-Michel Haddad & David Smaga

Trainer: David Smaga

Breeder: Alain-Michel Haddad

Rider: Cristian Demuro

Eighth for his debut on the same course in July, then fourth after leading in Deauville, Nembo Kid (Siyouni) was very brave here, after a somewhat messy race, to keep a neck on Green Glory (Olympic Glory), who attacked him all the way down the straight and himself kept a short neck lead over beginner Leopards Park (Siyouni). Rouvray (Wootton Bassett) finished well in fourth at one length.

Bred by co-owner Alain-Michel Haddad, Nembo Kid is the seventh foal out of Victoria College (Rock of Gibraltar), who raced for actor Omar Shariff before entering stud. She had great success there since she first gave Lucky Look (Teofilo), notably second in the Prix de Lutèce (Gr2), then Millfield (Whipper), second in the Prix de Condé (Gr3), who became a familiar figure in the main handicaps and who earned over € 400,000 in earnings and premiums, or La Poutanesca (Falco), also a handicap horse.

HISTORIEN (G3), FRA by Coastal Path ex Une Belle Histoire (Epalo)

Prix Isopani (AQPS 3-year-olds unraced over jumps, 3,600m/1m5f), September 26, Auteuil

Owner: Haras de Saint-Voir

Trainer: Nicolas de Lageneste

Breeder: Haras de Saint-Voir

Rider: Alain de Chitray

Easy victory for Historien (Costal Path) in this 3-year-old beginners race restricted to AQPS. In the lead from the start, Nicolas de Lageneste's homebred took off in the backstretch and was no longer challenged. He won by 17 lengths over Homme Public (Cokoriko), who dominated Houx Gris (Gris de Gris) in the run-in after gradually closing in.

Historien had won his first flat race last time out at Moulins after starting with a fifth place at Vichy, and a second-place at Moulins, in June, three months before his success.

This race has also been won by Bristol de Mai and Emirat.

Historien is out of Une Belle Histoire (Epalo), who did not run over jumps and only won one race at Le Mans. On the other hand, she gave four winners for as many racing-age foals, and then an Authorized filly. Une Belle Histoire is a sister to the champions Homme du Jour (Rock Video) and Rendons Grâce (Rock Video). Their dam Ability (Olmeto) had run three times, without success ...

FÉÉRIQUE (F3), (IRE) by Le Havre ex Incroyable (Singspiel)

€20,000 Prix du Marais du Lys (Maiden 3-year-olds, 2,400m/1m4f), September 25, Chantilly

Owners: Wertheimer & Frère (Frenchbred filly: €10,000 + €5,400 Owners' Premium + €2,002 Breeders Premiums - 13% / French sire)

Trainer: André Fabre

Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère (Frenchbred filly: €2,002 Breeders Premiums - 13% / French sire)

Rider: Maxime Guyon

Seventh for her debut in July at Compiègne over 1m2f, Féérique (Le Havre) took a good start from her 9 draw and went by the front-running Malini (Gleneagles). She let her try to escape going off the bend but then caught her when Dalmawa (Kingman) came by and even took over about 2 out. Féérique never surrendered though and she ultimately took the upper hand to finish, winning by a half-length over Dalmawa, who stayed on and beat Pretty Women (Zoffany), unlucky behind Malini, and Nuance (Dream Ahead), also brave after being boxed in for a while.

Féérique is a sister to Impertinente (Redoute’s Choice), a Prix Psyché (Gr3)-third and the winner of one race, then sold for € 100,000 at the end of her 4-year-old year in Deauville last December. Their dam Incroyable (Singspiel) also gave a 2-year-old filly by Fastnet Rock in training with Carlos Laffon-Parias, and a colt by Le Havre born this year.

NUMÉRO DIX (C2), GB by Territories ex Timely Words (Galileo)

€22,000 Prix de Villemetrie (Unraced 2-year-olds, 1,200m/6f), September 25, Chantilly

Owner: Écurie Ama.Zing Team (UK-bred, no Owners' Premiums: €11,000)

Trainer: André Fabre

Breeders: The Pocock Family (UK-bred, no Breeders' Premiums)

Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

Unsold at £30,000 as a weanling and at £58,000 as a yearling, Numéro Dix (Territories) updates the Tattersalls catalogue page of his younger Mastercraftsman sister in October. He is the third foal out of the unraced mare Timely Words (Galileo), sister to Melbourne Cup (Gr1) winner Rekindling (High Chaparral), and her second winner to date after Reassurance (Champs Elysees), a 5-year-old mare who's just won her second race in England.

After following the front-runners Lozen (Showcasing) and Noto (Territories), who was the favourite, he took off in the final furlong to win by four lengths in front of Lozen.

SEACHANGE (F3), FRA by Siyouni ex Ydillique (Sadler’s Wells)

€20,000 Prix Fairy Legend (Maiden 3-year-old fillies, 2,100m/10.5f), September 23, Saint-Cloud

Owners: Wertheimer & Frère (Frenchbred filly: €10,000 + €5,400 Owners' Premium + €2,002 Breeders Premiums - 13% / French sire)

Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias

Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère (Frenchbred filly: €2,002 Breeders Premiums - 13% / French sire)

Rider: Maxime Guyon

It is certainly the best impression of this day at Saint-Cloud, because Seachange (Siyouni) won her maiden thanks to a beautiful final run that took her to beat a brave Whistle (Dabirsim), ridden with extra caution after having followed the leading duo River Rock (Fastnet Rock) and Gemcutter (Medaglia d'Oro).

The Wertheimer brothers homebred won by a length and a half for what was her fourth attempt, almost a year after her good debut when 2nd on this course in the Prix Tenebreuse. Third later to Raabihah, one of the best 3yo in Europe, and American Apples in the Prix de La Seine (L), she had not showed up since, that is to say since May.

Seachange is Ydillique's (Sadler's Wells) seventh foal. The dam was bought as a yearling for $ 600,000 at the Keeneland sales by the Wertheimers. She left the competition without a win, however, and her best foal to date is Tristesse (Broken Vow), winner of the Prix Panacée (L) in Toulouse and of three other races.

Ydillique was finally sold full of a colt by Le Havre for € 55,000 at the 2017 Arqana breeding sales, and she has left for Ireland ...

CALCULATING (g3), GB by Camelot ex Sea Meets Sky (Dansili)

€20,000 Prix Borax (Maiden 3-year-old colts & geldings, 2,100m/10.5f), September 23, Saint-Cloud

Owner: Succession Stavros Niarchos (UK-bred, no premiums: €10,000)

Trainer: Pascal Bary

Breeder: Succession Stavros Niarchos (UK-bred, no premiums)

Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

Third for his debut in May, over 1m2f, then fifth in a Class 1 race over 12.5f three months later, Calculating (Camelot), one of the five geldings of this seven runners maiden race, then finished second to Algiers on the same 10.5f trip. Algiers won the Listed Prix Turenne a few minutes before this new attempt of Calculating, who in turn won very easily after following the brave pacemaker Candiraton (Dabirsim), finally third. Between the two has indeed slipped the entire Toscano (Youmzain), who came, like Candiraton, from Germany.

Calculating is out of Sea Meets Sky (Dansili), winner of a race in Great Britain, also dam of Sea of Charm (Charm Spirit), who has just made his debut in England when 4th on Wolverhampton's all-weather after being sold for € 28,000 as a weanling, then £12,500 at the Tattersalls yearling sales.

BOTANIK (C2), IRE by Golden Horn ex Autumn Lily (Street Cry)

€22,000 Prix Victrix (Maiden 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,600m/1m), September 23, Saint-Cloud

Owner: Godolphin (Irish-bred, no premiums: €11,000)

Trainer: André Fabre

Breeder: Godolphin (Irish-bred, no premiums)

Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

An easy race for Botanik (Golden Horn), who led and was never really challenged, even though the favourite Ethnic Type (Fast Company) went by at one stage only to settle for an equally easy second place. The Godolphin homebred finally won by three lengths for his third attempt, Ethnic Type remaining easy second, three and a half lengths ahead of Spanish Colt (Kodiac), who has always followed them.

Botanik is out of triple winner Autumn Lily (Street Cry), who was trained in England and Dubai. She is a sister of the good Alexandros (Kingmambo), third in the Prix Morny (Gr1) and second much later in the Lockinge Stakes (Gr1). It is also the family of In the Wings.

TASMANIA (f2), FRA by Zoffany ex Australienne (Monsun)

€22,000 Prix Barquette (Maiden 2-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m), September 23, Saint-Cloud

Owners: Wertheimer & Frère (Frenchbred colt: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium)

Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias

Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère (€1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)

Rider: Maxime Guyon

Well placed behind the front-running Vie Privée (Mayson) and Sentimental Mambo (Deep Impact), favourite Tasmania (Zoffany) took over the latter 300 yards out and won handily, by a length. Further on, Marie de Vega (Lope de Vega) finished well, coming from the rear to take third place ahead of Mme du Barry (Territories), always well placed.

Tasmania had started her career with a second place three weeks earlier and came close to winning that day, only to get beat by Philomène near the post. This time she played the opposite role. She is the daughter of Australienne (Monsun), winner of one only race, and therefore a sister to Palomba (Lope de Vega), winner of a Listed event. Her 2nd dam America (Arazi) foaled the champion stayer Américain (Dynaformer), winner of the Melbourne Cup (Gr1) and the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (Gr2). Tasmania’s full brother, a winner at Dax, he has just been sold for € 60,000 in Deauville.

Tasmania is entered in the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1).

ANSILIA (F2), IRE by Dansili ex Incahoots (Oasis Dream)

€22,000 Prix Ténébreuse (Unraced 2-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m), September 19, Saint-Cloud

Owners: Wertheimer & Frère (Irish-born but Frenchbred filly: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium)

Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias

Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère (Irish-born but Frenchbred filly: €1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)

Rider: Maxime Guyon

A well-deserved win for Ansilia (Dansili), who had followed the leaders before gaining the upper hand quite easily, was a little eclipsed by the eye-catching finish of Gold Haze (Le Havre), who came from the rear to take the second place, within a length of the winner.

Ansilia is the first foal out of Incahoots (Oasis Dream), who herself bought £ 420,000 in 2015 at breeding sales after her one victory. Incahoots is nonetheless a sister to We Are (Dansili), winner of the Prix de l'Opéra (Gr1) whose knick has been tried again here.

The mare then gave birth to a Dark Angel yearling filly, and a daughter of Frankel this year.

PIECEDERESISTANCE (c2), IRE by Gleneagles ex Positive Step (Footstepsinthesand)

€22,000 Prix As d’Atout (Unraced 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,600m/1m), September 19, Saint-Cloud

Owners: Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith & Sue Magnier (Irish-bred, no premiums: €11,000)

Trainer: André Fabre

Breeder: Highpark Bloodstock (Irish-bred, no premiums)

Rider: Pierre-Charles Boudot

Bought for €80,000 as a weanling at the Irish sales, while his younger Caravaggio brother made €170,000 a year later, Piecederesistance (Gleneagles) was the favourite in this mile race for beginners. he started slowly but went to the lead before the bend, and then held off Rakeez (Dubawi), who had given him the leade earlier and finished a good length 2nd.

Piecederesistance is a brother to Broken Stones (Requinto), now racing at Hong Kong under the name Packing Stones, and 3rd at 2 to Mehmas -a promising freshman sire- in the July Stakes (Gr2) at Gooodwood.

FRONTGATE (F2), USA by War Front ex Océanique (Forest Wildcat)

€22,000 Prix de Vineuil (Maiden 2-year-old fillies, 1,200m/6f), September 18, Chantilly

Owners: Wertheimer & Frère (US-bred, no premiums: €11,000)

Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias

Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère (US-bred, no premiums)

Rider: Crystal Miette

Another beginner beat more experienced runners here as Frontgate (War Front) went from pillar to post, using the best of their female apprentice rider allowance to keep Kennela (Kendargent), who was running for the fourth time and finished well at a length and a half, out of reach.

Bred by her owners, Frontgate is out of Oceanique (Forest Wildcat), also bred in the United States by the Wertheimers, and sister to Green Tune (Green Dancer) and Pas de Response (Danzig) - no less! Her best foal to date is Snowday (Falco), winner of the Prix du Bois (Gr3) at the start of the 2-year-old season. A gelding son of Anodin has just been sold for €2,500 in Deauville.

CHEZ PIERRE (c2), FRA by Mehmas ex Hortensia (Orpen)

€22,000 Prix de Saint-Firmin (Maiden 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,200m/6f), September 18, Chantilly

Owner: Mc Roy Jackson Jr (Frenchbred colt: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium)

Trainer: Francis-Henri Graffard

Breeders: SCEA des Prairies & Écurie de Castillon (€1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)

Rider: Pierre-Charles Boudot

The only beginner at the start of this maiden, Chez Pierre (Mehmas) seemed to have to settle for third place 2 out when the front-running Rapido Presto (Pedro the Great) and Favaritx (Shalaa) fled and took a few lengths. Gradually shifted by Pierre-Charles Boudot, the Roy Jackson-owned colt finally took over the favourite Favaritx, second at ¾ of a length, Rapido Presto being beaten 2.5 lengths ...

Chez Pierre was first sold for € 25,000 at the Deauville yearling sales to Laura Vanska, who then consigned him at the Arqana breeze-up sales this year. Nicolas Bertran from Balanda (NBB Racing) then bought him for €100,000 … His dam Hortensia (Orpen) did not win, but she's from the family a lot of very good performers. A daughter of Zelzal was born in 2019.

HERE I AM (g3), FRA by Born to Sea ex Khazina (Alhaarth)

€42,000 Prix Finot - Poulains (3-year-old colts & geldings unraced over jumps, Hurle Race, 3,600m/1m5f), September 16, Auteuil

Owners: Éric de Saint-Pierre, Gabriel Leenders, Chauvigny Global Equine, Alexandre Pucheu (€20,160)

Trainer: Gabriel Leenders

Breeder: Haras de Montaigu (Jumps Breeders' Premiums: €2,923 - 14.5%)

Rider: Clément Lefebvre

Four runners fought in the last kilometre as El Fabiolo (Spanish Moon), along the rail, Transatlantic (Le Havre) and Al Nakhil (Planteur) outside, followed by Here I am (Born to Sea), the only complete beginner amongst the contenders. However, he proved to be the best in the run-in, winning by two and a half lengths over a brave Transatlantic, second in front of El Fabiolo and Al Nakhil, who recovered well after a flat spot going off the bend.

Here I am is the fifth foal out of an Aga Khan-bred mare, Khazina (Alhaarth), sold to Haras de Montaigu in December 2016 at the Deauville sales for €18,000, full of Here I Am. The Haras de Montaigu bred this foal and sold the dam two years later, for €10,000, full of one of the home sire, No Risk At All, after she also gave a daughter to Martaline, another home stallion at Montaigu. The latter, now 2, was sold € 34,000 at the Arqana Autumn sales in 2019 and is declared in training with Alain Couétil.

Khazina, for her part, was exported to Ireland. She failed to win but she is a sister of the Grand Prix de Paris (Gr1) winner and a sire Khalkevi (Kahyasi).

SKY SISTER (F2), FRA by Maxios ex Meandra (Dubawi)

€22,000 Prix Ravinella (Pouliches maiden de 2 ans, 1 400m), September 11, Saint-Cloud

Owner: Claire Stephenson (Frenchbred filly: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium)

Trainer: Georges Doleuze

Breeder: Petra Bloodstock Agency (€1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)

Rider: Aurélien Lemaître

Fourth on August 20 on the Deauville all-weather-track for his debut, beaten by fillies who went on to run well, Sky Sister (Maxios) started outside but flanked Denia (Camelot) on her inside to take the lead alongside Almeida Girl (Temple City). In the final stages, they overran the latter, who gave in, on either side and then fought each other to the wire, Sky Sister eventually taking a length. Behind them, Vanouche (Invincible Spirit) finished third ahead of Tahlie (Rio de la Plata), who was boxed in all the way.

Sky Sister was bought for € 12,000 at the Deauville sales.

ERASMO (C2), GB by Oasis Dream ex Sant Elena (Efisio)

€22,000 Prix Kendor (Maiden 2-year-old Colts & geldings, 1,400m/7f), September 11, Saint-Cloud

Owner: Godolphin (UK-bred, no premiums: €11,000)

Trainer: André Fabre

Breeder: Car Colston Hall Stud (UK-bred, no premiums)

Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

Third for his debut in July at Deauville over 6 furlongs, Erasmo (Oasis Dream) started as the favourite here. After leaving several keener colts to compete for the lead on the way to the first turn, led by Farfar (Union Rags) with Duty Beyond (Uncle Mo) flanked by Bran (Muhaarar) behind, Erasmo travelled in fifth position, a bit isolated outside the field. He started to join the fray early in the homestretch, pushing Bran, who was also coming up as Farfar began was giving in. The two colts kept fighting until the last 100 yards when Erasmo took over decisively to win by a length and a half.

Always well placed by the rail, Marillaman (Myboycharlie) took the third place, beating Duty Beyond and Ocean (Exosphere).

Erasmo was bought for £ 140,000 at the Newmarket sales. He is a brother to Reckless Abandon (Exchange Rate), winner of the Robert Papin (Gr2), the Middle Park Stakes (Gr1) and the Prix Morny (Gr1) at 2, and the best 3-year-old sprinter in Europe in 2013.

AZOV (C2), FRA by Invincible Spirit ex Askania Nova (New Approach)

€22,000 Prix Fast Fox (Unraced 2-year-olds, 1,200m/6f), September 11, Saint-Cloud

Owner: Viktor Timoshenko (Frenchbred colt: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium + €1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)

Trainer: Vaclav Luka

Breeders: Viktor Timoshenko & Andriy Milovanov (€1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)

Rider: Grégory Benoist

Early leader alongside Cross Bench (Kingman), who wasn't going to last long down the home stretch, Azov (Invincible Spirit) fled 2 out and stayed on out of reach for Izumi (Showcasing)'s good finish. Fifth-placed Mandolin (Muhaarar) did well a bit further down.

Trained in the Czech Republic by Vaclav Luka, Azov is the third foal out of Askadia Nova (New Approach), a winner at Dieppe for Azov's breeder Viktor Timoshenko. She also gave a winner at Lyon-Parilly named Fort Templier (Champs Elysees), a stablemate to Azov.

The foal's second dam, Bal de la Rose (Cadeaux Genereux), is also the dam of Danceteria (Redoute’s Choice), a Group 1 winner in Germany and of La Coupe (Gr3) in France for trainer David Menuisier. Bal de la Rose is also a sister to the champion and champion sire Lope de Vega (Shamardal).

OBEONE (F3), FRA par Muhtathir et My Fair Lady (Poliglote)

€42,000 Prix Finot – Pouliches (3yo fillies unraced over obstacles, 3,600m/1m5f), September 9, Auteuil

Owners: Écurie Gabeur & Mickaël Mescam (€20,160)

Trainer: Mickaël Mescam

Breeders: Haras des Sablonnets & Marie-Christine Gabeur (Jumps Breeders' Premiums: €2,923 - 14.5%)

Rider: Geoffrey Ré

Two fillies completely dominated the final stages of this Prix Finot 3yo Fillies Hurdle (L). Fighting each other after the last, Obeone (Muhtathir) and the front-runner Rivière d'Etel (Martaline), only separated by a length and a half at the post, left the third-placed Milos (Planter) 20 lengths further down the field ...

Rivière d'Etel, a full sister to the 2012 winner of this race Ria d'Etel (Martaline), started her racing career with a fifth place this Summer over the flat at Clairefontaine. She held a strong pace here and was always trailed by Obeone, who took over in the final hundred yards only.

Obeone was bred by Marie-Chistine Gabeur and the Haras des Sablonnets. She had never run before. Unsold at € 13,000 as a weanling at the Arqana breeding sales in 2017, she's out of My Fair Lady (Poliglote), who won her first three races over hurdles and chasing at Lyon and Enghien when trained by Guillaume Macaire, and was sold during the same auction as her daughter in Deauville in December 2017 for € 36,000, full of a Walzertakt colt bred by Neustrian Associates, like her Night Wish foal born last year.

She is herself an aunt of the good Roi Mage (Poliglote), winner of a Prix Georges Courtois Chase (Gr2) at Auteuil, and My Way (Martaline), second of the Prix Congress 3yo Chase (Gr2) at Auteuil.

Her sister Massila (Barastraight) also won the Prix Finot des Pouliches (L) last year. She hasn't come back since.

VIRTUOSITÉ (F2), FRA by Camelot ex Légèreté (Rahy)

€22,000 Prix de la Poterne des Peupliers (Maiden 2-year-old Fillies, 1,600m/1m), September 6, ParisLongchamp

  • Owners: Wertheimer & Frère (Frenchbred filly: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium + €1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)
  • Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias
  • Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère (€1,439 Breeders' Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

Second in the Prix de la Reboursière for her debut, over 7.5f at Deauville, Virtuosité (Dubawi) therefore followed the same path as Bouttemont, winner of the male version of this maiden. The Wertheimer family homebred was also held back before being pushed along to take nearly two lengths and hold on Shifting Wind (Intello), who finished well, as one length, herself beating third-placed Israaj (Helmet) by a length. Note the good debut of the only beginner amongst the seven fillies, the fifth-placed Sentimental Mambo (Deep Impact).

Virtuosité is the eighth and for the moment the last foal out of the good racemare Légèreté (Rahy), winner of the Prix de Royaumont (Gr3) and the Prix de Malleret (Gr2) after having finished third in the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1) at 2 years old.

Granddaughter of the great Featherhill, Légèreté also gave the good Pilote (Pivotal), Listed winner and Group-placed between 1m and 1m2f, and Esquisse (Dansili), also a Listed winner.

Main entries: Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1).

BOUTTEMONT (C2), (IRE) by Acclamation ex Basilia (Fastnet Rock)

€22,000 Prix du Val Vauvert (Poulains entiers & hongres maiden de 2 ans, 1,600m/1m), September 6, ParisLongchamp

  • Owner: Philippe Allaire (Irish born colt, assimilated Frenchbred: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium)
  • Trainer: Yann Barberot
  • Breeder: Écurie Peregrine (€1,439 Breeders Premiums - 8.5% / foreign sire)
  • Rider: Grégory Benoist

Dominated although second for his debut at Deauville behind Midlife Crisis, who runs in the Prix des Chênes (Gr3) and is entered in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr1), the handsome Bouttemont (Acclamation) took advantage of this experience to win at the second call. After travelling in fourth position in a race led by Germany's Mythico (Adlerflug) and Entei (Motivator), he easily took over 2 furlongs out to go to win by a good length, simply pushed away. Mythico stayed on a good second ahead of Favreale (Lope de Vega), who finished well.

Bought € 125,000 at the Deauville sales by his trainer Yann Barberot for the famous trotting trainer-owner Philippe Allaire, Bouttemont bears the name of the latter's stud farm near Deauville. This is the first foal out of Basilia (Fastnet Rock), twice winner at 3 over 6 and 6.5 furlongs for Elisabeth Fabre, her breeder. Basilia's out of the good racemare Bargouzine (Stravinsky), second in La Flèche (L) at 2, from a very good Argentinian family.

Basilia also gave a filly by Make Believe in 2019.

PHILOMÈNE (F2), (IRE) by Dubawi ex Prudenzia (Dansili)

€22,000 Prix de la Cascade (Unraced 2-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m), September 3, ParisLongchamp

  • Owners: Godolphin, Écurie des Monceaux & Écurie Skymarc Farms (Irish born filly, assimilated Frenchbred: €11,000 + €5,940 Owners' Premium)
  • Trainer: André Fabre
  • Breeders: Écurie des Monceaux & Écurie Skymarc Farms (€2,202 in Breeders' Premiums - 13% / French sire)

This other very popular “maiden” race was radically different from that of the Prix de Fontenoy contested by the males. It was led by More Joy (Morandi), taken over 300 yards out by Tasmania (Zoffany), who had been held in her wake, and even deluded until the favourite, Philomène (Dubawi), found momentum and went fast to take her a short neck on the wire. This margin does not reflect her superiority on the day.

More Joy remained an excellent third at two and a half lengths, with Lady Day (Motivator), who delivered a good effort two out, and Sweet Victory (Holy Roman Emperor), who finally went into stride when the whole thing was over.

The first two home were entered in the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1).

Philomène was sold €1,625m at the Deauville sales, as the vacation top-price. She'a s sister to Chicquita (Montjeu) and Magic Wand (Galileo), whose dam Prudenzia (Dansili) is a sister to Pacifique (Montjeu), dam of Paix (Dubawi), who won the Prix de Lutèce (Gr3) on the same card.

Like her cousin Paix, Philomène was sold at Deauville but still belong at 50% to her breeders Écurie des Monceaux & Écurie Skymarc Farm.
