New maiden winners in France (Feb. 12-18)

Focus on the maiden winners of the past two weeks on the France Galop racecourses, an opportunity to discover some of tomorrow's champions ...

Placed 4 times in his previous 6 races, Parigote (Dream Ahead) had just failed over 7 furlongs last time out in a Class 2 race, 3rd beaten a short neck and head by Dragon’s Teeth (Dragon Pulse) and Beyond My Dreams (Dream Ahead).

This time however, she was kept out of trouble and followed a well backed Arguin (Manduro), also an eyecatcher in his previous outing, when he went ahead earl in the last stretch. It looked a sif the race was in his bag but the Robert Collet-trained filly just pipped him at the wire …

Parigote was sold €11,000 to Robert Collet at the 2016 Arqana August sale. She's out of the winning mare La Bastoche (Kaldoun), dam of the good sprinter Mariol (Munir), winner of 11 races including the Prix de Ris-Orangis and the Prix de Meautry (Gr3), also 2nd in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr1), also for trainer Collet. The filly's 3rd dam, the Boussac-bred Denia (Crepello), also led to Daylami (Doyoun) and Dalakhani (Darshaan).

6th for her debut on the same course and distance in January, outpaced most of the way, Neufbosc (Mastercraftsman) showed lots of improvement in his second race. Pushed ahead at the start and relayed by the unraced Moral Gagnant (Dabirsim), he threw himslef 2 furlongs out and slowly took over Moral Gagnant and Mr Satchmo (Mr Sidney).

Neufbosc is out of Montjeu Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (Gr1) 3rd Nonsuch Way (Verglas). She also ran for Gérard Augustin-Normand, breeder and owner of Neufbosc, as he bought her from Jan Romel. Nonsuch Way is out of the good mare Lucky Lune (Priolo), a genuine haras de la Louvière article, Group placed in the USA after winning the Prix Urban Sea (L) in France. It is the same bloodline that of Boris de Deauville and the fillies Altérité, Ask for the Moon or Célimène.

The 1st winner saddled by André Fabre this seaosn, Lucie Manette (Shamardal) started her career last september over Saint-Cloud's turf with a 3rd place, seven lengths behind the promising With You. Octeville, who beat her by half a length that day, had won shortly afterwards at Clairefontaine. A bit green early on here, Lucie Manette she nevertheless won easily in the end, leaving a closing Alcama Doloise (Youmzain) steal the 2nd place from Minnehaha (Poet’s Voice) in the last strides.

Padmini (Tiger Hill), Lucie Manette's dam, lost her three first foals. She's out of the champion mare Petruschka (Unfuwain) and was sold only £65,000 at Newmarket, in foal to New Approach in 2015.
