French Guineas 1-2 lead European 3yo rankings

The best ratings of the season so far have been released and the two top 3yo performers are Brametot and Le Brivido, first and second of the Abu Dhabi Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2,00 Guineas), on Sunday in Deauville.

Brametot (Rajsaman) and Le Brivido (Siyouni) got a rating of 122lbs and 121lbs respectively in the Abu Dhabi Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas-Gr1) , the best in Europe so far. Indeed, if the winner of the Two Thousand Guineas (Gr1) Churchill (Galileo) also boasts a 122lbs rating, he got it last season in the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr1). In the Guineas this year, hewas rated at 120lbs only, which places the French Al Wukair (Dream Ahead), 3rd that day, also in 3rd position of the French rankings with a rating of 117lbs.

The rating of Brametot and Le Brivido can be explained by the three lengths they put between them and English raider Rivet (Fastnet Rock), plus the six lengths between the latter and the field. Winner of the Racing Post Trophy (Gr1) last year, Rivet confirmed for his comeback this season before his attempt in the French classic, as well as those who completed the podium at Doncaster at the end of 2016.

The winner of the female version, the Abu Dhabi Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas-Gr1), Anne-Marie Hayes' Précieuse (Tamayuz), was racing over a mile for the first time that day and put on her best ever performance with a at 114lbs rated effort, five pounds better than her previous best over 6 furlongs in the Prix Sigy (Gr3) won by the impressive colt Fas (Fastnet Rock), rated at 113lbs that day but probably up to some even better things in the future (he's in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and the July Cup at Newmarket July meeting). Another talented young sprinter, the filly Aladdine (Naaqoos), was rated 111lbs when dominating the Prix Texanita (Gr3) over 5 1/2 furlongs.

Précieuse is two pounds below 1,000 Guineas queen Winter (Galileo) though.

The winner of the Prix Greffulhe (Gr2) at Saint-Cloud, Recoletos (Whipper) is today the best in France over intermediate trips with a rating of 112, 7 pounds more than Phelps Win (Muhtathir), winner of the Prix de Guiche (Gr3) against rivals who probably ran below their best value.

Second in the Coolmore The Gurkha Prix Saint-Alary (Gr1), Vue Fantastique (Motivator) dominates in the 3yo fillies over 10f+ distance with a rating of 109lbs.

Next update on June 21.
