The Cartier Racing Awards 2017 were announced Tuesday evening November 15 in London. As expected after her impressive win in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr1), which granted her best rating of the season at 128, the 3-year-old filly Enable (Nathaniel) was named "Horse of the Year" according to the best horses ratings, the British horseracing press, the votes of readers of the Racing Post and the Daily Telegraph and Channel 4 viewers.
French racing is ubiquitous in this year's selection. The winner of the Qatar Prix Niel (Gr2) Cracksman (Frankel) was named best 3-year-old colt, while the 2-year-old Happily (Galileo), who beat the colts in the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1), was elected best 2-year-old filly. Among the competitors of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, 3rd placed Ulysses (Galileo) was voted best older horse and the 4th-placed Order of Saint George, voted best stayer of the year.
If there was a race of the year in the Cartier awards, the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe would probably fare well!
