The Racing Festival: a whole host of surprises in store!
During the 2011 Lucien Barrière Deauville Meeting, visitors were kept entertained thanks to a comprehensive programme of activities held in and around Deauville-La Touques racecourse. Every race day was different from the last and each guaranteed its own surprises and exciting action.
Up close and personal with racing’s big names
Racegoers were invited to get to know the stars of the racetrack on their stomping ground. Every race day, one of racing’s big names stepped up onto the podium to chat with the public about their shared love of horses!
Legends Area
At the heart of the racecourse, 18 previously-unseen photographs signed by jockeys were on display. Visitors had the chance to win one of these photos and be snapped with the jockey in question thanks to a competition that was run throughout the 2011 Lucien Barrière Deauville Meeting.
Legends’ silks
On every Group I race day, one lucky racegoer won a silk belonging to one of the racing world’s most legendary owners!
Follow the hoof prints of racing’s biggest stars!
Just like Hollywood’s “Walk of Fame”, we created our very own “Walk of Fames” that displayed prints made by the 18 winners of the Group races (I, II and III) at the Lucien Barrière Deauville Meeting.
Exclusive open-air entertainment!
In 2011, racing fans were invited to bring their family along to Deauville’s first Great Racing Families event, which boasted fun-filled and informative workshops, including “Inside the race”, a simulation which allows users to experience a race in the stirrups of a jockey, or the famous “Meet the Racing Family” game, where they could meet the professionals who make racing so unique. There were also a host of other original activities to choose from, such as Gulli’s Hippo Jump and the giant “Petits Chevaux” board game!
The “Galops d’Or” Festival Closing Night
At the “Galops d’Or Festival” closing night on 26th August, we took a look back at the highlights of this month-long racing event. During this chic gala evening, Galops d’Or trophies were awarded, honouring performances by the best horse, best jockey, best trainer and best breeder, as well as the Jury’s Special Award, which was decided by public vote. In 2011, Goldikova was the runaway winner of this award.
The whole of Deauville was in a party mood as it celebrated all things equestrian!
